| Wen Jiabao Meets with Swedish, Polish and Irish State Leaders |

On October 9, 2004, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council of China met respectively with Swedish Prime Minister Goran Persson, Polish Prime Minister Marek Belka and Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern at the Hanoi International Conference Center. Wen told Persson that China-Sweden relations enjoy very good momentum of development. High-level exchanges have strongly pushed forward the cooperation between the two sides. Sweden has become China's largest trading partner in North Europe. China attaches importance to developing relations with Sweden and hopes the two sides conduct closer political exchanges and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. The Chinese government would like to push large-sized enterprises of the two countries to strengthen cooperation, while encouraging small and medium-sized ones to develop in Sweden, so as to continuously enhance dynamics of bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
Persson made positive remarks on bilateral ties. He emphasized that Sweden will continue developing comprehensive cooperative relations with China based on the one-China policy. Sweden welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest there.
When meeting with Belka, Wen said that President Hu Jintao's successful visit to Poland in the middle of this year has upgraded China-Poland friendly relations to a new level. As Poland is an important country in Middle and East Europe, China gives priority to developing relations with Poland and hopes to expand bilateral economic and trade exchanges and earnestly implement various consensus reached between the two heads of state. Wen Jiabao expressed his congratulations upon Poland's accession to the European Union (EU) and his hope that it can play a positive role in pushing for China-Europe cooperation. Belka is satisfied with Poland-China relations and hopes that the two countries will continue maintaining exchanges of high-level visits and tap huge potentials in economic and trade cooperation.
When meeting with Ahern, Wen said, "During my visit to Ireland in this May, our two sides discussed approaches of promoting bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation in education, science, technology and agriculture". Currently bilateral exchanges in various aspects are very active and have made major headways, there are huge potentials in developing China-Ireland ties and in the near future the two sides should strengthen cooperation in software and biological science and consolidate exchanges and cooperation in agriculture and animal husbandry. Ahern noted that the two countries have witnessed frequent bilateral exchanges at various levels, effective economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges that are especially welcomed by the two peoples. The Irish government hopes to join hands with China to maintain and develop the sound momentum of bilateral relations.
